Dewey Austin Goff served his country for 16 years as a member of the U.S Army and Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War. World War II- Dewey Austin Goff enlisted to the U.S Army on February 16, 1942. He was approved for flight training due to his four years of high school and became a member of the Army Air Corps. He was a Waist Gunner and his flying missions over Germany in the European Theater. Dewey Goff was a member of the 8th Air Force, 306th Bomb Group, nicknamed The Reich Wreckers. He also was a member of the 369th Bomb Squadron, nicknamed The Fightin’ Bitin’. Dewey Goff attained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Korean War- Dewey Austin Goff enlisted in the Korean War on May 1, 1951. His enlistment branch was for the Army. After a little over a year of service, Goff was discharged from the war on November 30, 1952. |
