Dewey Austin Goff was born in Bessemer, Alabama on November 9, 1921. [1] He was the son of General Austin Goff (October 9, 1889-September 29, 1939) and Lee Nora Crumpton (August 5, 1896-October 6, 1992). His parents were married December 25, 1911, by the Reverend Jim Taylor.
Dewey’s father, General Austin Goff, was born in Hart, Kentucky. His parents were James Robert Goff (April 1867-September 1901) and Lora Douglas Taylor (November 13, 1866-March 26, 1959). His given name was Jacob Austin Goff, however, after his service in World War I, Jacob became better known as General Austin Goff and General A. “Jake” Goff. After the Great War, General Goff dedicated his life to the military until his early passing at the age of fourty-nine.
Dewey’s mother, Lee Nora Crumpton was born to Samuel Dean Crumpton (April 21, 1877-August 28,1961) and Ruth K. Crumpton (April 13, 1877-May 26, 1946) in Kentucky. She passed away at the age of 96, after living to see her great-granddaughter, in Horse Cave, Kentucky.
Lee Nora Crumpton Goff and General Austin Goff had two sons and two daughters. Their children were Robert Dean Goff (December 9, 1912-January 31, 2005), Kathleen Hall (April 8, 1917-March 10, 2014), Opal Lee Goff (June 7, 1919-July 21,2019), and Dewey Austin Goff (November 2,1921-June 25,1997). General Austin Goff moved his family within Kentucky (Hodgenville and Cleaton) and Alabama (Cave Springs and Bessemer) when their children were young, and returned to Horse Cave, Kentucky later in life. Both General Austin Goff and Lee Nora Crumpton are buried in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery, Horse Cave, Hart County, Kentucky.
Dewey Austin Goff graduated from Glendale High School in Glendale, Kentucky on May 18, 1940. He worked at Kroger Grocery Co. in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, after graduation and at the time he enlisted for World War II.

Kathleen Goff Hall (April 8, 1917-March 10, 2014) was born in Cleaton, Kentucky. She married David Nunn Hall (July 4, 1908- May 13, 1986) of Halls, Tennessee, on May 20, 1935. She passed away in her apartment at the age of ninety-six in her sleep. She has been cremated, but she has not been buried yet.
Opal Lee Goff Tabb (June 7, 1919-July 21,2019) was born in Cave Springs, Alabama. She married Harold Woodrow Tabb (May 23, 1912-July 8, 2003) of Sonora, Kentucky, on May 3, 1941. She is now buried in Hardin Memorial Park Cemetery located in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
